A slow burner。Having enjoyed ‘Along Came A Spider’ I was keen to read another James Patterson novel。 However， I found it such a slow burner that it took a while to grab my attention。I gather that ‘The Red Book’ follows on from ‘The Black Book。’ Maybe it’s best to have read the first book to enhance the enjoyment？It features Billy Harney who works for the Special Operations Section of the Chicago Police Department。 He certainly has had a checked past， where he has been shot in the head， plus I ga A slow burner。Having enjoyed ‘Along Came A Spider’ I was keen to read another James Patterson novel。 However， I found it such a slow burner that it took a while to grab my attention。I gather that ‘The Red Book’ follows on from ‘The Black Book。’ Maybe it’s best to have read the first book to enhance the enjoyment？It features Billy Harney who works for the Special Operations Section of the Chicago Police Department。 He certainly has had a checked past， where he has been shot in the head， plus I gather that he has experienced huge family trauma and losses。Many chapters were spent on the gangland violence occurring on the city’s West Side， plus Harney discovers corruption among the Chicago PD。 Another of his problems is working under Paul Wisniwsky and even his work partner has been placed to spy on him。I’m sure that many fans of James Patterson will enjoy the Red Book’ but it wasn’t my favourite read。 I suggest again that it may be wise to read its prequel first。Galadriel。Elite Reviewing Group received a copy of this book to review。 。。。more

This is James Patterson writing at his best。 This book picks up from The Black Book but you don't need to read that book first because the author fills in what you need to know as you read along。 Billie Harney is back to work and on a special team with a new questionable partner who just may be setting him up so the force can get rid of him。 Four years ago he lost his young child to a stroke and his wife to supposedly a suicide on the same day。 He busted up a corruption of the Chicago Police Dep This is James Patterson writing at his best。 This book picks up from The Black Book but you don't need to read that book first because the author fills in what you need to know as you read along。 Billie Harney is back to work and on a special team with a new questionable partner who just may be setting him up so the force can get rid of him。 Four years ago he lost his young child to a stroke and his wife to supposedly a suicide on the same day。 He busted up a corruption of the Chicago Police Department which put lots of bad policemen， including his own father， out of work。 He also has recovered from being shot in the head。This starts out with a drive by shooting where a drug dealer， young unknown woman， a drug courier and a young baby are all slaughtered。 It is solved too fast for Billie and he decides to take a second look。 That gets the train moving on the track。 We are speeding right along with him as he makes all the twists and turns to find out just what is going on。 The characters are well developed。 The plot is ever changing and pulling us in。 Lots of action and a lot of emotion in this book。 I loved it and I think you will too。 Now we have to wait for the sequel that's coming out。 Opening chapters are at the end of this book， but I'll wait until I can read it all。 。。。more

I have read over 80 Patterson’s stories。 Yep I have been a longtime fan。 However， I didn’t’ do my homework on this one ~ didn’t realize that that is the second in “The Black Book’ series。 I ended up giving “The Black Box’ 3 stars but it was not an enjoyable read。 Most of JP’s recent stories have too much profanity for my enjoyment。 I had a hard time getting into the actual story。

Eh。 This book was just eh。 The biggest problem with it is that the “tough guy” attitude and the slew of smart ass one liners， not to mention the endless “cop lingo” drove me crazy。 I need to stick with James Patterson books that he writes on his own， not with someone else。 At least his books are quick reads。
